Letters from our readers July 2006 4-H Photography Project Thank you for supporting and sponsoring the 4-H junior/senior Photography Project. I won first place and will go to state congress in July. I really appreciate the sponsors so I can do 4-H events. -- Ryan Hayes, Griffin
I would like to personally thank you for your continuous support of the Photography Project. This is my third year competing in the project, and I have placed third twice, and just recently placed second. During my demonstration, I discussed the different careers involved in photography. Again I would like to thank you for your support, for without you, half of this project would not be possible. -- Randall Andrews, Lincolnton
Shared memories I thoroughly enjoyed your article on Rep. John Lewis in the April 2006 issue [see "From sharecropper's son to civil rights leader," page 18]. He is a great man and has brought much to his country and to Atlanta.
The rural upbringing Lewis had was in a tiny community called Saco in rural Pike County, Ala. My grandfather built a pond house out of a school bus less than a mile from Saco. While we come from different racial backgrounds and are not of the same generation, Lewis and I share great memories of this special place in South Alabama. I think it makes us both yearn for a simpler time.
I also wanted to tell you about Troy University. While it is true that Troy was segregated in the 1960s, today the university presents a very international atmosphere. Currently 36 percent of Troy State students are black, and international students from 53 countries are enrolled there.
Keep up the great work. -- Ty Harvey, Marietta |
