Writer's Guideliness
 WRITER’S GUIDELINES (Revised 9/29/2007)
FOCUS: GEORGIA Magazine is the most widely read magazine for and about Georgians. Each issue celebrates the Georgia lifestyle in word and photo, revealing the spirit of its people and the flavor of its past in a friendly, conversational tone. Feature articles and departments focus on what’s in it for the reader, bringing home the story in a useful, personal way that touches their lives directly. CIRCULATION: An average of 500,800 copies is mailed each month to members of Georgia’s Electric Co-ops, plus additional paid subscription mailings within Georgia and out of state. LENGTH OF ARTICLES: GEORGIA Magazine has a limited number of features due to space considerations. Word length for major features is 1,000; departments and smaller features, 500-800. FEES: As a nonprofit publication, fees, including expenses, start at $500 for features (first-time North American rights), and photography support is required either by providing actual slides, prints or digital images (minimum 300 dpi) that serve as illustration or as examples for photo shoot possibilities. Shorter articles and departments range from $300 to $500, depending on subject matter or time involved. Second-use rights pay one-half the usual fees. Fees are paid upon publication (or acceptance of assignment). All travel expenses are the responsibility of the writer unless prior arrangements have been made with the assigning editor. WEB SITE & PROMOTIONAL REPRODUCTION: GEORGIA Magazine reserve the right to reproduce articles and photos from specific issues in its Web site, www.georgiamagazine.org, whether the article is reproduced in whole or in part, and also within its promotional materials, such as within flyers, mailers and convention display booths. QUERY LETTERS/IDEAS: Query letters for story ideas are welcome; writing samples or unsolicited photos cannot be returned. (Photos assist in story idea selection.) Submissions may be sent to the Editor, GEORGIA Magazine, P.O. Box 1707, Tucker, GA 30085-1707, or faxed (770) 270-6995, or sent via e-mail to ann.orowski@georgiaemc.com Suitable ideas will receive a response; please allow 2-3 months. SAMPLE COPIES: Sample copies may be obtained by sending $2 per issue or edition with a request in writing. ARTICLE FORMAT: All submissions are required to be provided in a word processing format, sent either on disc or via e-mail. The preferred word processing program is Microsoft Word, sent as an attachment to an e-mail.
