UNG Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band will present an evening of music representing a wide variety of composers and styles. The selections represent a “Masterwork” and a number of dances written for winds and percussion. The representative masterwork on the program is the classic First Suite for Military Band in Eb by Gustav Holst. The wind ensemble will also play a recent composition, Scherzito after Holst by Christopher Lowry as a companion piece to this incredible work. Both ensembles will perform a number of dances including A Little Tango Music by Adam Gorb, and Shifting Grounds by Giovanni Santos. Also on the program is the winner of our annual Concerto Competition, Tyler Howell, alto saxophone soloist, performing another masterwork: Paul Creston’s Concerto for Alto Saxophone and Band. The evening will conclude with a brand-new work for band: Logan Larson’s Haszmatic Hyperdrive, which incorporates electronic dance music and “dubstep.”
