Event Description

Sensory Friendly Saturdays are designed to create a welcoming, comfortable museum experience for visitors with Autism Spectrum Disorders and others with sensory sensitivities. On these special days, guests can explore the museum in a calmer environment with dimmed lighting, reduced sound and fewer sensory distractions throughout the galleries.

Visitors are welcome to check out a sensory kit from the front desk to support their experience or to bring personal sensory tools that work best for them. Whether you’re visiting for the first time or returning to explore a favorite exhibit, Sensory Friendly Saturday offers a relaxed, inclusive way to enjoy the museum at your own pace.

To help you prepare for your visit, History Cherokee’s Social Story provides a step-by-step introduction to the museum, including what you’ll see, hear and do, as well as an overview of museum guidelines.
